Mary Elizabeth Conrad, 94, of Wilkes-Barre, PA, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025. She was born August 22, 1930 to the late Walter and Sadie (Paul) Bloss. She was beloved by her family, friends, and her community alike, and will be deeply missed.

Mary had a lifelong passion for serving her community and did so by cooking and managing the kitchen staff for the Wilkes-Barre Area Vocational Technical School for 25 years. After retiring, Mary continued to serve others by proudly and safely crossing children to school at Dr. David W. Kistler Elementary School and Elmer L. Meyers Junior/Senior High School as a crossing guard until she was 90 years old. Her tireless work ethic, both in her professional and personal life, was an inspiration to her family and her community.

Everyone who met Mary was struck by her outgoing personality, sense of humor, beautiful smile, genuine kindness, desire to help others, and generous spirit. Mary loved attending First Church of Christ Church and hosting countless family gatherings at her home where she took great pride in cooking the family meals for every holiday. She was not only an incredible chef but also a gifted baker and her family always looked forward to sampling her many delicious cookies and pies. Her favorite vacations were in Wildwood Crest, NJ, where her entire family and their friends would celebrate annually for over 30 years. More than anything, Mary beamed with pride when she spoke about her 4 children, 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and the many spouses and close family friends that loved her dearly.

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Philip Conrad; her eight siblings, Robert Bloss, Albert Bloss, Walter Bloss, Thomas Bloss, Harold Bloss, Charles Bloss, Phyllis Vincheski, and Dorothy Jones; and her son Daniel Conrad.

Mary is survived and missed by her sons Philip Conrad Jr. (Virginia) and Terry Conrad (Doreen); her daughter Sandra Fox (Michael); and her daughter-in-law Kathy Conrad. She is forever cherished by her 15 grandchildren and her 19 great grandchildren.

Mary’s family is infinitely grateful for the compassionate care that Mary received from the staff at both Compass Home Health and Rehab and Allied Hospice in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Funeral services will be held Sunday May 4 2025 at 3:00PM from the Daniel J Hughes Funeral & Cremation Service, 617 Carey Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.
