John J ‘Jack’ Ryan, 100, formerly of Pittston, passed away peacefully Saturday November 15th, 2025 in Wesley Village, Jenkins Township, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Pittston, he was the son of the late William and Pauline (Langan) Ryan.  He was a graduate of Pittston High School and earned a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Scranton.

 

He went to work with the government with the Federal Railroad Administration as a US Rail Inspector, travelling all over the United States, for many years until his retirement.

 

He had been a very active member of NARFE, National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association and was a vocal community minded person always ready to discuss current issues in the community.  He was also a longtime member of the former St Mary’s Church, and current member of Our Lady of the Eucharist Parish, Pittston.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and a sister, Ligouria Ryan

 

He will be sadly missed by sister, Joan Heck, niece, Ellen Casale and nephew, Jerry Heck and wife Betty Ann Heck.

 

Funeral services with a Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 10:00AM in Our Lady of the Eucharist Church, 535 North Main Street, Pittston.

 

Interment will follow in St John’s Cemetery Pittston.

 

Family and friends will gather Saturday morning from 9:00AM until the mass at the church.
