Laralee Ann “Lori” (Witkowski) Riemensnyder, 75, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Raised in Miners Mills, Lori was a graduate of the former James M. Coughlin High School, Class of 1967. Following high school and well into adulthood, she furthered her education, ultimately obtaining a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from King’s College, where she graduated cum laude.

Breaking barriers and paving the way for future generations, Lori proudly served for almost 37 years as a member of the Wilkes-Barre Police Department, notably as one of the very first women to join the force in the region. Her illustrious career spanned four decades, during which she flourished in various capacities: as a dedicated patrolwoman, a sharp mind in the drug task force and special investigations, a diligent detective, quick-minded hostage negotiator, and ultimately, in the role she cherished most – Captain of the Community. For eight years as Captain, she fostered strong relationships between the police and the residents of the city, earning deep respect and making a difference in the lives of countless individuals.

Even after retiring from the Wilkes-Barre Police Department, Lori's untiring commitment to public service led her to continue working in law enforcement, first as an officer for the Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department and later providing security for the Federal Courthouse in Scranton. Indeed, for her, policework wasn’t merely a career; it was a profound calling woven into the very fabric of her being.

She leaves behind her devoted husband of over 50 years, Bob Riemensnyder, with whom she built a lifetime of cherished memories. She was the loving mother of Rob Riemensnyder and his wife, Stephanie, and the doting Nana to her adored grandchildren, Anthony and Mercedes, who brought immense joy and laughter into her life. She is also survived by her younger brothers, David Witkowski of Hudson, FL; Stanley Witkowski of Mountain Top; and Jon Witkowski of Safety Harbor, FL, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday July 12, 2025, at 10:00AM from the Daniel J. Hughes Funeral & Cremation Service, 617 Carey Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.

Interment will follow in St Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Family and friends will gather Friday July 11, 2025, from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at the funeral home.
