Eric Johns, 56, of Wilkes-Barre passed away early Wednesday morning January 14 2026, surrounded by his son and friends in medicine after a courageous battle with cancer. Eric, born in Pringle, was the son of the late Robert Johns, and the late Rita Reilly Johns.

Eric was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, West Side Career and Technology Center and graduated from the Luzerne County Community College Paramedic program in 1994. Eric started as a volunteer in 1983 for Pringle fire and ambulance. From 1985 forward Eric worked for multiple private ambulance agencies in the area. In 2001 Eric was hired by the City of Wilkes-Barre Fire Department as a career paramedic until his retirement in October 2025 due to his illness.
In addition to his career, Eric was also a skilled carpenter and builder. He helped many family and friends with home projects and upgrades to their kitchens, bathrooms, and more. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Raiders, and Penn State Fan. He loved classic rock music and attending concerts with his son Zachary.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Brian Johns, Allen Johns, William Johns, Robert Johns, Jr., and a sister, Susan Jonovitch.
He will be sadly missed by his son, Zachary Johns, State College, stepdaughter, Amber Rodola, Wilkes-Barre, brother, Ronald Johns and partner Sandy, Luzerne, sisters Nancy Berry and husband Dan, Pamela Nace, and husband Joe, Pringle, Rita Doughton and husband William, Edwardsville, many nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Eric requested for memorial donations to be made to nonprofit organizations who helped him fight cancer, Foundation 58, Miles for Michael, and Helping Heroes NEPA.
Special thanks to the GWV Henry Cancer Centre Staff, and The Good Drop Infusion Clinic Avoca, the WBFD work family, and so many others that have helped Eric through this battle.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17 2026 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Barney and Division Streets, Wilkes-Barre.
Family and friends may visit Saturday from 9:00AM until the mass at the church.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Daniel J. Hughes Funeral & Cremation Service, Wilkes-Barre.
