Stanley “Lefty” Piekanski

Stanley “Lefty” Piekanski, 88, passed away into his eternal reward on Monday, April 6, 2026.

 

Born August 19, 1937, he was the beloved husband of Diane Piekanski, whom he married on April 20, 1968.

 

Stanley worked for Pagnotti Enterprises from 1960 to 1967 and later owned and operated Lefty’s Café in Larksville. He worked for the Wyoming Valley School District as a bus driver and crossing guard.

 

A talented pitcher, he played semi-professional baseball, winning championships with the Sheatown Ramblers and Mayflower A’s, and was invited to try out for the Cleveland Indians in 1962.

 

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and raised hunting dogs throughout his life. He was often seen with his German Shepherds by his side. He was also a devoted fan of Penn State football and the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Josephine Piekanski, a brother, Walter Piekanski and sister, Irene Gimble.

 

He is survived by his wife Diane, daughter, Michelle Jackubowski (née Piekanski) and husband Michael, grandchildren, Joshua, Anna, and Abigail Jackubowski, a son, Stanley Piekanski, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

 

The family extends their sincere thanks to the incredible staff at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital for their care and kindness.

 

A private memorial will be held at the convenience of the family from the Daniel J Hughes Funeral & Cremation Service, Wilkes-Barre. #Piekanski
