Michael J. Crawford, 53, of Hunlock Creek, passed away, Tuesday, April 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at home.
Born in Wilkes Barre, he was the son of the late Paul and Marguerite Crawford and was a graduate of Bishop Hoban High School, Wilkes-Barre.
Michael began his career in 2000 at the Wilkes-Barre City Fire Department, holding several
positions during his tenure with the most recent being Fire Investigator. Michael also owned
and operated J and J Tent Rentals and could usually be found with a sledgehammer in hand
all summer.
Some of his favorite pastimes were swimming in the creek, working outside, and playing any kind of games with his family.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by a brother PJ Crawford.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Jessica Crawford, and children, Michael Hayden,
Cassidy, Dashawnna, Kaelyn, Tucker, Cooper, Hartley, Harper, Jemma, Tessa, Jasper and Ruby,
a sister, Molly Richardson (Robert and nieces), sister-in-law Heather Crawford, a nephew and his firehouse family.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 9 2026 at 1:00PM in the King’s College Scandlon
Gymnasium, North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
A visitation will be held from 10:00AM until the service at the King’s College Scandlon Gymnasium.
The funeral procession for Michael and his family, escorted by the Wilkes-Barre City Fire Department Honor Guard, will arrive at 9:30AM. If you would like to witness the arrival, please gather on North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, in front of the King’s College Scandlon Gym.
Special thanks to Memorial Sloan Kettering and Dr.Gu as well as the staff that took such
fantastic care of Michael during his battle with esophageal cancer. Also, to Geisinger
Wyoming Valley ER and the 5th floor Oncology dept who had a hand in taking care of him
during numerous admissions.
In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Michael please spend some time with the children in your life making memories that will last them forever.
